Dr. Rieneke Terink is a health scientist and works as a scientific researcher at Sports Valley in Gelderse Vallei Hospital. She focuses on research at the intersection of physical activity, nutrition, lifestyle and health, with the aim of developing practical knowledge that can be directly applied in healthcare and sports settings.
Rieneke earned her PhD at Wageningen University & Research, where she studied the effect of exercise on micronutrient status and the stress and immune response. This combination of physiology, nutrition and behaviour still forms the foundation of her work today.
Within Sports Valley and the Sportinnovator Centre, she contributes to a wide range of innovative projects, including e‑learnings on nutrition, automated personalised lifestyle advice, and new measurement methods related to lifestyle and nutrition. She was also involved in establishing the lifestyle support desk at Gelderse Vallei Hospital.
Rieneke regularly gives presentations at conferences and professional events on lifestyle, prevention, nutrition, sport and health. She is known for her clear and accessible way of explaining scientific insights, and for her ability to connect people and organisations. She enjoys expanding her network and gains energy from working together in enthusiastic teams.
In her work, Rieneke aims to help people understand the value of healthy nutrition and regular physical activity not only for improving sports performance, but especially for feeling better in daily life. She believes that governments and employers can play a stronger role in making healthy choices easier and more natural for everyone.
